PEI's Famous Five 25th Anniversary Conference:
Celebrating Our History... Changing Our Future

October 30, 2018

Famous Five Panel

In 1993, women held the positions of Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker of the House, Lieutenant Governor, and Deputy Speaker. This was the first and last time that women held these positions in a province or territory at the same time.  Join this prestigious panel to of PEI’s Famous Five to hear their perspectives of this historical milestone and the future role of women in government and leadership.

Student Leaders – Setting the Stage for Diverse Leadership Now and for the Future

Join a panel of student leaders as they discuss how youth are influencing change in the present and how they plan to instigate positive change in the future. How do we increase diversity in elected leadership?  What do youth see as barriers to diversity? How can these obstacles be overcome? What opportunities do they see the future holds for increasing the number of women elected to public office?

Collectively Celebrating Our Past to Change Our Future

During the afternoon session, conference attendees will engage in a participatory workshop that examines our past with a view of how to change our future. How do we ensure that the voices of our population are represented in elected government? How do we create interest for women and diverse groups to engage in the political realm? Is it about perception shift or is there a need for systemic change?
