Organizational Description

The PEI Coalition for Women in Government is a non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing women’s leadership in the political, civic, and democratic life of PEI. Our vision is that Women’s political and civic involvement at all levels is equitable and as diverse as the population.

The PEI Coalition for Women in Government is a community-based organization that works to address the underrepresentation of women in decision-making. We do so with the belief that gender equity in decision-making results in more equitable policies and outcomes for all. To accomplish our mandate, the Coalition for Women in Government addresses systemic and structural barriers to civic participation by women-identifying and marginalized people and empowers people with information, tools, and strategies to increase their participation. The Coalition is committed to applying non-partisan, evidence-informed, intersectional feminist  principles and processes in its work.

The Coalition supports rights and empowerment of all women, while understanding how women’s overlapping identities — including race, class, ethnicity, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation — impact the way they experience oppression and discrimination.
