The Coalition for Women in Government congratulates Natalie Jameson on her win in the District 9 deferred election yesterday.

July 16, 2019, Charlottetown – The Coalition for Women in Government congratulates Natalie Jameson on her win in the District 9 deferred election yesterday. 

Wilson thanks Karen Lavers and Sarah Stewart-Clark for putting their names forward in the general and deferred elections as well and congratulates John Andrew and Gordon Gay for their work as candidates. Dawn Wilson, Executive Director of the PEI Coalition for Women in Government says, “We are pleased that Natalie Jameson will join Members of the Legislative Assembly as the representative for District 9.” Wilson notes, “Natalie Jameson is the 32nd woman ever elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island.”

Following the District 9 deferred election, women make up 26% (7/27) of Members of the Legislative Assembly, which despite an increase is still below parity. Women now make up 2/12 (16.6%) of the Progressive Conservative caucus. In addition, women make up 5/8 (62.5%) of the Green Party caucus and 0/6 (0%) of the Liberal caucus.  

Wilson concluded “The election of Natalie Jameson in District 9 also provides a new opportunity for a larger representation of women in cabinet. We look forward to the contributions she will make in her new role as an MLA.”
